Applicants with post-secondary education from Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) from the province of Alberta will have two new immigration pathways too choose from under the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP).
Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) Overview
The Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) is the province of Alberta’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The AINP is an immigration program that allows the provincial Government of Alberta to nominate qualified individuals for permanent residency to the federal Government of Canada.
Qualified applicants must meet the minimum requirements of the AINP, including having the necessary skills to fill labour shortages in the province or have the experience and financial capacity to purchase or start a business.
Qualified applicants must also have the financial capacity to provide for their families.
Qualified applicants who are nominated through the program can apply for permanent residency for their qualified dependents, including their spouse or common law partners and children.
The AINP is run by the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada.
Qualified applicants must meet the minimum requirements to apply for permanent residency with the Government of Canada.
The AINP has different streams, including:
AINP STREAMS FOR WORKERS
The AINP has 2 different streams for foreign workers who live and work in Alberta.
Alberta Opportunity Stream
Qualified applicants who live in and work in the province of Alberta and have a job offer from a Canadian employer from the province of Alberta can apply for a nomination under this stream.
Alberta Express Entry Stream
Qualified applicants who have an active Express Entry System profile may be invited to apply for an AINP nomination through this stream.
STREAM FOR ENTREPRENEURS
The AINP has 2 different streams for entrepreneurs who would like to live in Alberta and has the financial capacity and experience to either start a new business or purchase an existing business.
International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream
International students who have graduated from Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) in the province of Alberta and would like to either start a new business or purchase an existing business can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) under this stream.
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
Qualified applicants with experience as farmers who would like to either start a new farm or purchase an existing one can apply under this stream.
NEW AINP PATHWAY NOW AVAILABLE
The AINP will encourage International Students to start businesses in the province that will create employment opportunities for locals and help grow the economy.
The first is called the International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, which was launched on Monday, October 26, 2020.
This stream is for International Students who graduated from a post-secondary program at a DLI in the province. The stream is now open for applications, starting with applicants submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI).
Applicants will be assessed, with points given for meeting the minimum requirements of the program. Each applicant will be entered in a pool of candidates, with the highest ranking applicants receiving an invitation to submit a Business Application.
Applicants must still meet the minimum IRCC requirements for applying for permanent residency to Canada.
The second stream is called the Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream. This stream is scheduled to launch in January 2021, and will accept applications from International Students who graduated from universities and colleges in the United States and are willing to start a business in the province.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE ENTREPRENEUR IMMIGRATION STREAM
In order to apply for the International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream, applicants must be International Students who graduated from DLIs in the province of Alberta. A minimum of two years of full-time education from a DLI is required, as well as a Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) that is valid for at least two years at the time of submission of the EOI.
Applicants must move to Alberta to either start a new business or purchase and existing Canadian business. Applicants must have a minimum 34% ownership stake in the company. The type of business must be approved and cannot be included in the province’s list of ineligible businesses.
Applicants must have minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of at least 7 on all proficiencies in either English or French.
The proposed business must also have a positive economic benefit for the province of Alberta, creating jobs, investment opportunities and others.
Applicants who are between the ages of 21 and 49 years of age will receive additional points.
Applicants who have relatives who are already living in the province will also receive additional points.
