The Philippine Ambassador to Canada recently paid a visit to Canada’s Parliamentary Secretary for Consular Affairs to talk about OFW concerns.

Her Excellency, Petronila Garcia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Philippines to Canada, recently paid a visit to the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Consular Affairs), Omar Alghabra.

Mr. Alghabra is also the Member of Parliament for Mississauga Centre, a riding with has a lot of Filipino residents.

With the number of OFWs continuing to grow in Canada, the Philippine Government representatives are hard at work to make sure that the rights of Overseas Filipino Workers are always protected.

The diplomatic team raised concerns made by members of the Filipino community, in particular OFWs under the now-defunct Live-In Caregiver Program, which still has thousands of workers waiting to complete the minimum requirements necessary to apply for Permanent Residency. Mr. Alghabra echoed the statement previously made by the Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen: that Caregivers will always have a pathway to Permanent Residency.

BTW, Ambassador Garcia is the first female Philippine Ambassador to Canada. Keep up the great work, Ambassador Garcia. We are very happy to have you here in Canada.
