Canada to provide more support for LGBTQ2 refugees under the Rainbow Refugee Assistance Pilot program

The Government of Canada just announced that they will renew their agreement with the Rainbow Refugee Society in supporting refugees sponsored under the Rainbow Refugee Assistance Pilot program.

The pilot program promotes awareness of the needs of LGBTQ2 refugees, to give prospective sponsors more information to help them settle in their new lives in Canada.

The pilot program will provide funding to cover initial costs when refugees first arrive in Canada, including clothing and basic household items. Privately sponsored refugees are also given three months of income support during the first year, with their sponsors providing the other nine months.

Working with the Government of Canada, the Rainbow Refugee Society and other community stakeholders will be developing a long-term strategy in support of LGBTQ2 refugees.
