Canada shares the longest international border in the world with the United States. Whether for business or pleasure, Canadians sure do love to cross the border. Did you know that immediately after receiving your Permanent Residency in Canada, you can apply for a US Visa? US Visas have always been so difficult to apply for in the Philippines, in Canada, not so much. Here’s how to apply for a US Visa in Canada.
PS. If you’re already a Canadian citizen, you don’t need a US Visa.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR A US VISA?
Generally, citizens of foreign countries need a US Visa to enter the United States. Some people are exempt, but if you’re a Filipino citizen (that is, you travel with a Philippine Passport), you need to apply for a US Visa.
What are the steps in applying for a US Visa?
1. Figure out what kind of visa you need here.
2. Complete the DS-160 visa application form online.
3. Create a user account at the Official Nonimmigrant (temporary)
Visa Information and Appointment website for the U.S. Embassy in Canada, enter the confirmation number for each applicant, finish the courier document return process, pay the Non-Immigrant Visa application fee, schedule your Consular Section appointment
4. Go to your Consular Section appointment for your interview
If you are denied, the consular officer will give you a letter explaining why. If the letter is marked 214(b), you can submit a new application but will have to schedule a new interview and pay the visa application fee again. If it was marked 221(g), you will be told to submit additional requirements and you won’t have to pay the visa application fee again.
HOW MUCH IS A US VISA?
If you are travelling to the United States for Business, Tourism or Medical Treatment, the visa application fee is $160 USD.
