Just in case you didn’t hear, Jollibee opened their first Ontario location over the Easter long weekend at Kennedy Commons in the Scarborough neighbourhood of Toronto. To say it was pretty successful would be an understatement. Now CP24 is reporting that Jollibee has its eyes set on another location, this time it’s going to be Jollibee Downtown Toronto.
It was an exercise in how to properly hype up a restaurant opening. Five years after first announcing plans to open in Canada, and after two openings in Winnipeg, Jollibee Food Corporation finally opened their first location in Canada’s most populous province.
Ontario is also home to Canada’s largest Filipino community. As evidenced by the hundreds of people who lined up in the cold to get their first taste of Jollibee in years.
The first person in line got the promised one year supply of Crispy Chicken (ChickenJoy, for all you Jollibee purists). That honour went to Paul Magbujos. He stood in line for an incredible 17 hours to get dibs on Jollibee. And dibs he got, along with a plush version of the Big Red Bee.
CP24 reported that Jollibee was looking at a second location in Toronto’s downtown core because of the tremendously successful opening.
Jose Maria A. Miñana Jr., Head of Country Business Group for Jollibee Foods Corporation’s North American operations was on hand for the opening, and expressed his enthusiasm at bringing the world famous flavours of Jollibee to the Canadian market, in particular Toronto.
Bienvenue à Toronto, Jollibee!
