Lines are now much more manageable at Jollibee Scarborough.
Jollibee has been open at Kennedy Commons in the Scarborough neighbourhood of Toronto for more than a month now, and while there is still a bit of a wait involved, it’s nothing compared to the insane lines seen during opening day.
We were there for opening day, and it was cold. People lined up for hours just to be able to say that they were first to have Jollibee in Canada.
Which is technically not true. The Jollibee Scarborough branch is actually the third Canadian location.
In their infinite wisdom, Jollibee decided to open the first two locations in the province of Manitoba.
Willing to wait?
The Greater Toronto Area is home to the largest Filipino Canadian community in Canada (yes, even bigger than the one in Manitoba).
By some estimates, there are more than 200,000 Filipinos in the GTA. Thats, like, a lot.
No wonder there are still long lines outside Jollibee. Next door neighbours Nando’s Chicken is probably wondering: “WTF do they put in their chicken??”
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day
Not everything is available at Jollibee Scarborough. For one thing, they don’t have breakfast. Don’t go there expecting to order Breakfast Joys (it ain’t gonna happen).
Both Jollibees in Manitoba just started serving breakfast, so you can expect to wait a little bit longer in Toronto.
TBH, we wouldn’t mind us some Corned Beef, Beef Tapa, Breakfast Steak or Hot Dog for breakfast.
What’s on the menu at Jollibee Scarborough
They do have the most popular items on the menu. We’re talking Jolly Spaghetti, Yum Burgers and ChickenJoy.
Excuse us, Jolly Crispy Chicken.
The folks behind the counter won’t roll their eyes when you say ChickenJoy. It’s just that they can’t legally call it that in North America (and it wasn’t for lack of trying).
Jollibee Canada menu prices
1. Jolly Spaghetti
Jollibee didn’t invent Filipino spaghetti, but they really did put it on the map.
The sauce is much sweeter than other kinds of pasta sauce, and has three kinds of meat: ground beef, ham and hot dog. Okay, maybe more than three kinds of meat then. All this topped with shredded cheese.
BTW, it doesn’t have to be someone’s birthday for you to enjoy Jolly Spaghetti.
Jolly Spaghetti – $5.99 + tax
2. Jolly Crispy Chicken (original or spicy)
This is what made Jollibee famous worldwide. ChickenJoy! The taste of deep fried chicken is what put the fast food chain on the map.
The story goes that when Jollibee first introduced ChickenJoy in the Philippines, people were found the idea of eating fried chicken that wasn’t KFC so strange that they literally had to stop people on the street and give the chicken away.
Now, people are lining up for hours just for a bite! They gravy isn’t so bad neither (just don’t forget to pick up some extra gravy. There’s never enough to go around, ever.)
