Wouldn’t you know it, Canada just announced that they will be allowing more immigrants to come to Canada until 2021. Will you be joining us here?
The Government of Canada just increased its immigration targets, increasing the multi-year plan to 2021. Doing so will allow an additional 300,000 people to become new immigrants to Canada.
The changes were announced as part of the Government of Canada’s immigration agency Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) report to Parliament.
The initial immigration plan called for 1 million new immigrants to Canada until 2020. By extending the immigration plan by a year, more than 300,000 people will get the chance to call Canada home.
The new, extended plan will include applicants under the economic, family, refugee and humanitarian streams. The new multi-year plan will see immigration targets increase every year to to 350,000 in 2021.
IRCC minister Ahmed Hussen said that more foreign workers and their families will come to Canada with their skills and expertise, making positive contributions to the Canadian economy.
Hussen said that the plan also calls for increased family reunification, as well as the fulfilment of Canada’s international obligations in accepting refugees.
A bulk of the new immigrants will come from economic immigrations run by the Government of Canada, namely the Express Entry System.
The Express Entry system manages the candidate pool of for the Federal Skilled Worker class, the Federal Skills Trade class and the Canadian Experience class.
1/4 of the 1.3 million new immigrants are expected to come to Canada under the Express Entry system.
The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), which allow provinces and territories to nominate foreign nationals for permanent residence, will have a combined target of 255,100 over the course of the multi-year program.
IRCC said that the new, multi-year immigration plan was developed after consulting the provincial and territorial governments to allow them to bring additional manpower through their individual PNPs.
Family reunification is also expanded under the new, multi-year plan. The number of spouses, partners and other qualified dependents that will be welcomed to Canada is set at 70,000, while the Parent Grandparent Program is set at 21,000.
The remainder of the new immigrants coming under the new, multi year plan will come under the different economic immigration programs, including the Atlantic Immigration Pilot and the immigration programs being run by the provincial government of Quebec.
IRCC said that raising immigration targets will help Canada sustain its labour force & drive economic growth and innovation.
How about you guys, are you interested in immigrating to Canada anytime soon?
