More than 11,000 Canadians celebrated 152nd birthday during Canada Day 2019 activities on Parliament Hill in the nation’s capital, together with Canadian politicians and celebrities, including actor Ryan Reynolds.

Performances by Canadian artists including K’naan, Shawnee, T. Thomason and Karim Oullet.

The beautiful weather drew more people to Canada Day celebrations across the country.

It’s estimated that there were more than twice the number of people this year in Ottawa celebrations than last.

Among the dignitaries attending were Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and actor Ryan Reynolds.

During the event, Justin Trudeau took to the microphone to give his remarks, “Canada Day on Parliament Hill is something of a tradition for many of us and I couldn’t be happier to be back with you this year.”

Justin Trudeau was unable to join the Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa last year, opting to mark the day with Canadians affected by steel and aluminum tariffs imposed by the United States in 2018.

Justin Trudeau commented on Canadians’ strong sense of community, always ready to help each other out in difficult times.

“We saw something very Canadian. We saw people being there for each other during tough times,” he said. “In the weeks that followed, a wave of solidarity swept across the country. We put up a united front. We leaned on each other.”

Justin Trudeau’s tweeted a greeting earlier in the day, “Happy birthday, Canada! Whether you’re watching the fireworks, firing up the grill, or getting outside with your kids, today, we celebrate the amazing place we call home. I know we’ll step up to the challenges we’re facing, just like we’ve always done, because no challenge is too great, if we face it together. From my family to yours, happy Canada Day.”

Musical performances by Canadian musicians were held at different locations across Canada, including at the Canadian Museum of History and Major Hill’s Park.

Fireworks are also a big part of Canada Day, with this year being no different.
