airport to canada

Public Health officials from the Canadian province of British Columbia have confirmed that another person has tested positive for bringing back Measles to Canada after a trip to the Philippines.

An alert was issued after public health officials determined that the Burnaby resident arrived from the Philippines aboard Philippine Airlines flight 116, which landed at the Vancouver International Airport (YVR) in Vancouver, BC on Tuesday, July 23, 2019.

YVR is located on Sea Island in Richmond, BC. about 12 kms away from Downtown Vancouver. It’s the second busiest airport in Canada, after Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), with flights coming from all across Canada as well as Asia, Europe and the United States.

Passengers aboard the flight from the Philippines may have been infected after a traveller brought back Measles to Canada.

They have been contacted by public health officials and have advised anyone who may have been at the international arrivals area, as well as at the park and ride area of the airport between 4:30pm and 7:20pm to visit a medical professional for a check up as soon as possible.

Individuals who have never had Measles and have not received two doses of Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine may be at risk.

Free MMR vaccines are available at public health units, walk-in clinics and family doctors.

Measles symptoms include fever, dry cough, runny nose and red eyes. It may take up to three weeks after exposure to develop symptoms.
