One of Canada’s largest Filipino street festivals will be held on Saturday August 17 and Sunday August 18. Are you ready for Taste of Manila?
Summer is always a lot of fun in Toronto. Thanks to the beautiful weather, there’s always something fun to do on weekends.
On August 17 and August 18, the Filipino community will converge at the corners of Bathurst Street and Wilson Avenue.
The intersection in the historically Jewish neighbourhood of North York has become home to many Filipinos, prompting many to refer to it as the unofficial Little Manila.
TASTE OF MANILA HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
When Taste of Manila started in 2014, organizers were hoping to bring in at least 5,000 people. Instead, more than 75,000 came and took part in the celebration of Filipino food and culture.
Since then, the street festival has grown, bringing in even more people every year. Dignitaries such as Justin Trudeau came to visit, and even tried his hand at making some traditional Filipino BBQ on a stick.
FILIPINO FOOD AT TASTE OF MANILA
Filipino stores and restaurants will all be represented during the two days of the street festival.
Expect plenty of the fan favourites, including street food like sisig, ukoy, and barbecue sticks.
And because it’s smack dab in the middle of summer, there’s sure to be popular treats like halo-halo and sago’t gulaman.
FILIPINO CULTURE AT TASTE OF MANILA
Filipino street festivals aren’t complete without song and dance, so you can bet that there will be plenty of entertainment scheduled during the two days.

Admission is free, but it’s probably a good idea to bring plenty of small bills. While some vendors might accept debit or credit, most will probably only accept cash.
Parking will be tricky too, as the intersection will be closed to traffic for the duration of the festival. We’ve been a few times over the years, and end up parking at Earl Bales Park.
