Canadians are headed for the polls on October 21 to vote for their next government. The Liberal Party’s leader, Justin Trudeau is promising $15 minimum wage if he’s reelected as Prime Minister.

The Liberal Party released its platform, which outlines all its promises across 85 pages, with a breakdown of how much it would all cost.

$15 MINIMUM WAGE ACROSS CANADA

If reelected, Justin Trudeau is promising $15 per hour effective 2020.

In case the minimum wage is higher in any province or territory, the higher minimum wage would prevail.

Currently, minimum wages are set by provincial and territorial governments.

OTHER PROMISES BY LIBERAL PARTY

The Liberal Party of Canada made a host of other promises if reelected in October, including tax credits for Canadian kids, protecting Canadians personal information online and prosecuting Canadians involved with terrorist organizations.

$200 CULTURAL PASS CREDIT FOR EVERY KID OVER 12

Justin Trudeau is also proposing a $200 credit for Canadian children over 12 years old.

The “cultural pass” credit would allow kids to watch movies and concerts, as well as go to museums, art galleries and theatres.

SAFEGUARDING CANADIANS PERSONAL INFORMATION ONLINE

Justin Trudeau is also promising to safeguard Canadians personal data online with stricter privacy measures on companies like Facebook.

DECRIMINALIZING FIRST TIME DRUG OFFENDERS AND MORE TRAINING FOR JUDGES

The Liberal Party’s platform is also hinting at decriminalizing hard drugs, focusing on access to treatment to proactively prevent more serious crimes down the road.

The platform is also putting a focus on mandatory training for judges to help them better preside over sexual assault cases, as well as additional training for unconscious bias and cultural competency.

PROSECUTING CANADIANS WHO JOIN TERRORIST GROUPS OVERSEAS

The Liberals are also proposing the creation of a new office for terrorism prosecutions, which would see Canadians who participate in terrorist activities overseas face justice in Canada.
