The local Filipino community in Vancouver Island is mourning the death of a local DJ, who died in a motorcycle accident in Port Renfrew over the weekend. Fred Fernando was 58 years old at the time of his death.
FRED FERNANDO WAS A VERY ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE FILIPINO COMMUNITY
Fernando, from Saanich, British Columbia was out riding with friends when he lost control of his motorcycle and went over an embankment.
Fernando was a very active member of the local Filipino community, who was often hired for events as a DJ. He also loved riding his motorcycle, taking the natural beauty of his little corner of Canada.
MOTORCYCLE GROUP IN CANADA REMEMBERS ONE OF THEIR OWN
The accident had happened between 5:30pm to 9:00pm Sunday evening. Investigators from the Sooke Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) believe that Fernando was eastbound on West Coast Road when he lost control of his motorcycle.
Family and friends gathered at the site of the accident, laying flowers as part of a roadside memorial.
Members of Patriarchs Motorcycles, the motorcycle group of which Fernando was a part of, said on Facebook: “Our thoughts and spirits are with you and your family. We shall ride again together, one day. Freddy, you were an individual like none other and you will never be forgotten. Much love buddy, much love.”

Family members also mourned on Facebook. Fernando’s daughter also remembered her father: “God has a plan for every single one of us and he has just put me to my biggest challenge yet,” she wrote. “Life without my Daddy. And I have to just go with it. You are at peace now, and I will never understand why it had to happen this way but I will learn to embrace it… I love you Daddy, your princess. Ride In Peace.”
The investigation to determine what had caused the crash continues.
