Manny Pacquiao visits Canada on Boxing Day

The Filipino community in Canada got a visit from one of the world’s greatest boxing heroes, Manny Pacquiao.

The Calgary Herald reported that Pacquiao’s private plane arrived at the Calgary International Airport on December 26, 2019.

December 26 is celebrated as Boxing Day in Canada (and other countries that were part of the British Empire). No, it’s not that kind of boxing, but still.

A large crowd of fans were on hand to greet Pacquiao at the airport, who took a few moments to sign autographs and take a couple of pictures.

Pacquiao was in a better mood at the hotel, where members of the Filipino community followed him.

During the press conference, Pacquiao told reporters that he was excited to be in Canada.

“I’m happy to be here and I’m happy to meet my fellow countrymen, Filipino people,” Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao is in Canada to promote the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

The MPBL is a regional men’s semi-professional basketball league which Pacquiao founded in 2017.

The series of exhibition games is called the MPBL Canada Invasion.

The MPBL Canada Invasion is scheduled for December 27, 2019 in Calgary and December 28 in Edmonton at the Edmonton EXPO Centre.

Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.

MPBL played an exhibition game in Calgary with local players at the Seven Chiefs Sports Complex on Friday December 27, 2019.

MPBL will be at the Edmonton EXPO Centre today, Saturday December 28, 2019.
