Canada jobs for Filipinos

Canada is highly dependent on Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to help fill positions available because of labour shortages in select industries. A full list of Canada jobs for Filipinos are available at the official Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) website.

OFWS AND CANADA’S TEMPORARY FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM (TFWP)

OFWs have come under the different immigration programs, including the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TWFP).

One of the most popular programs under the TWFP was the now-defunct Live-In Caregiver Program (LCP). Under the LCP, OFWs from all over the world came as nannies to work for Canadian employers to take care of their children, elderly and disabled family members.

Tens of thousands of OFWs took advantage of the LCP, which allowed low-skilled workers to bring their families to Canada after having met the minimum requirements of the program.

Illegal recruiters made millions of dollars, charging illegal fees from OFWs who wanted to come to Canada. Deciding that enough was enough, the Government of Canada shut it down, closing the LCP to new applications in 2014.

While OFWs can still come to Canada as Caregivers, they must do so under two pilot programs: the Home Child Care Provider Pilot Program and the Home Support Worker Pilot Program.

There are many jobs available for OFWs, but all need a Canadian employer authorized by the Government of Canada to hire foreign workers.

  • Even if an agreement with the Canadian employer is already in place, the OFW must still meet the requirements of both the Philippine Government (when applying for an Exit Clearance and the Government of Canada (when applying for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).

IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND WORK IN CANADA WITHOUT A RECRUITMENT AGENCY?

Canadian employers who wish to hire OFWs from the Philippines are required to partner will a POEA-licensed recruitment agency. This is done to safeguard OFWs from illegal recruitment. If something goes wrong, OFWs can get their money back from the recruitment agency through the POEA.

It is NOT recommended that OFWs bypass Philippine Government requirements, including attendance to the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS).

HOW MUCH IS PLACEMENT FEE FOR CANADA?

Canadian employers are supposed to shoulder all expenses related to the recruitment of OFWs, including airfare and placement fees.

These fees are NOT to be collected from OFWs,

In most cases, OFWs under the TFWP are low-wage workers, which is why the Government of Canada and the Philippine Government require Canadian employers to shoulder all costs associated with the recruitment of OFWs.

If you choose to pay recruitment agencies for placement fees, or choose to shoulder your own airfare, you do so at your own risk.
