The Philippine Embassy and Consulate Generals in Canada have suspended visa processing until January 15, 2021.

The suspension was announced by Philippine Embassies and Consulate Generals around the world, including in the United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Canada.

The suspension is part of the Philippine’s efforts to prevent the spread of the new COVID-19 variant first discovered in the UK.

All visa applications will be processed after the travel restrictions have been lifted, unless an extension is ordered.

The Philippine Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has advised foreign nationals to postpone any non-essential travel to the Philippines until travel restrictions have been lifted.

“The DFA encourages those intending to travel to the Philippines to check with the nearest Philippine embassy or consulate and regularly consult the website and social media sites of the Philippine Bureau of Immigration for the latest information,” the DFA said in a statement.

Malacanang Palace announced the travel restrictions on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, affecting travel from 20 countries that have identified cases of the new COVID-19 strain, including Canada.

Travellers with Philippine passports will be allowed to travel, but must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

Philippine Airlines has indicated that it will still continue with their previously scheduled flights, but will only allow travellers with Philippine passports to board.

Philippine airlines had previously cancelled all flights from the UK until the end of February 2021. Affected travellers may request for a refund or choose to rebook their flights at no extra cost.
