Most Filipino citizens need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) and a Study Permit to go to Canada as an international student. Continue reading to learn all about Study Permits for Canada.
What is a Study Permit?
TRVs (also called Study Permits) are immigration documents issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to foreign nationals who would like to come to Canada as international students.
TRVs are attached to your passport, and have an expiration date. You must travel to Canada before the expiration date on your TRV. You can travel to Canada using this document until the day it expires.
If the immigration officer is convinced that you meet eligibility requirements, you will be issued a Study Permit and be allowed to enter Canada.
What are the requirements for a TRV?
Basic requirements include:
- having a valid travel document such as a passport
- being in good health
- not have criminal or immigration convictions
- Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
- Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) or Territorial Attestation Letter (TAL)
Applications for TRVs are submitted online using the IRCC Portal. Once you’ve been approved, you can make travel arrangements to go to Canada.
You will receive a Letter of Introduction which you’ll show to the immigration officer when you arrive in Canada.
If the immigration officer is convinced that you meet the eligibility requirements, you will be issued your Study Permit and be allowed to enter Canada.
